Chicken Chat with Betty
Betty started laying again this week. She’s been eating like crazy and her comb has turned such a brilliant red. Ever since her fall molt, I have noticed her getting prettier and prettier.
When she came to us last spring, she had survived a hawk attack and her back was all scared up. Her previous owner had done a great job nursing her back to health, but I thought she would never have regular back feathers and I was ok with that. We loved her just the way she was. But, it seems Betty has a bustle and it’s big and pretty. She’s not any pure breed she’s half Langshan half Sussex. Lately though she’s been looking Orpingtony.
She hasn’t been letting her new prettiness go to her head though. She’s still on the lookout for hawks and teaching the next generation to do the same.
I've hopped into the Barnhop
She looks beautiful. Mine didn't molt this year. Last year they molted like crazy. I don,t know what happened this year.
ReplyDeleteShe has become a wise old bird! She is a pretty girl!
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting!
ReplyDeleteMichelle, Mine have never molted to the point of naked chicken status. It just looks like a feather pillow exploded for a couple of days and they look a little ragged. Maybe yours did a mini molt.
Melodie, Thank you, I hope she doesn't let it go to her head. She's already the queen of the flock.
Your post made me smile...she is a pretty one for sure.
